CYNIC? by EDWARD RALPH CHEYNEY

First Line: SINCE BEING BORN'S A SIN WE MUST ATONE
Last Line: AND ALL AWARDS ARE CONSOLATION PRIZES.
Subject(s): LIFE;

Since being born's a sin we must atone
Each day of all our hours on warrior earth;
Since each must live a lonely life alone
And death holds not one-half the pain of birth;

Since what we hold we lose and goals prove gaols
Or myths, why not prize good in all its guises?
Why seek escape? . . . . Life ever, never fails;
And all awards are consolation prizes.
