I found silver today in the cadence and trill Of the gay little song of the whippoorwill, And gold at the edge of the crimsoned west In a sea of clouds as the sun dipped to rest. Turqouise and rubies, amethyst, jade, I found in the setting that God had made, On hillside, in valleys, all summer they grow, In winter kept safe in a casket of snow. Diamonds and pearls I had lost for a while I found today in the flash of your smile -- So my heart is answering the cadence and thrill Of that gay little song of the whippoorwill. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...ON THE DAY OF THE DESTRUCTION OF JERUSALEM BY TITUS by GEORGE GORDON BYRON MARIZIBILL by GUILLAUME APOLLINAIRE WORLD-MILLER by FRANCES BARBER EARLY NIGHT by RICHARD EUGENE BURTON OSSIAN'S ADDRESS TO THE SUN IN 'CARTHON' by GEORGE GORDON BYRON LOVE, HOPE, AND PATIENCE IN EDUCATION by SAMUEL TAYLOR COLERIDGE |
