OKLAHOMA PRAIRIES by ELIZABETH COPMANN

First Line: NOT IN THE PATH OF THE BRAZEN SUN
Last Line: TRAILS A RAINBOW THROUGH THE GRASSES.
Subject(s): PRAIRIES; PLAINS;

Not in the path of the brazen sun
Does the spirit hover;
What that great harsh eye looks upon
Becomes the earth's bleached cover.

Days when distances are mistful,
Something rises here; something passes
Hesitant and pinched and wistful --
Trails a rainbow through the grasses.
