POEMS FOR EASTER: 1 by ELIZABETH WILLIAMS COSGROVE

First Line: SHALL A MAN LIVE, THOUGH FIRST HE DIE?'
Last Line: THEN -- WHY NOT I?
Subject(s): EASTER; HOLIDAYS; THE RESURRECTION;

I

"Shall a man live, though first he die?"
I asked a shivering tree
That gave no hint under a gray sky
Of bud, or leaf, to be.

This morning see the trees all fling
Green banners to the sky!
If they can wake, and laugh, and sing,
Then -- why not I?
