When you sit there the shadows come and go In merry gambol 'round your shining face, And press their purpled shades about the glow Of crimson on your cheeks. In happy grace They kiss your lips as night enfolds the skies, And peacefully they come and softly dwell Deep in the caverns of your darkling eyes, Casting the witchery of their magic spell. O then, I know God made my hungry heart For you to rule by word or glance or smile. 'Tis all of earth and heaven's better part To live within the thrall your lips beguile. Nor need I gaze at stars for in your eyes There gleams the starlight of a thousand skies. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE NEW APOCRYPHA: BUSINESS REVERSES by EDGAR LEE MASTERS THE MEDAL; A SATIRE AGAINST SEDITION by JOHN DRYDEN FELICIA HEMANS by LETITIA ELIZABETH LANDON THE TEMPERAMENTS by EZRA POUND GREAT BELL ROLAND; SUGGESTED BY PRESIDENT'S CALL VOLUNTEERS by THEODORE TILTON |
