MESA TWILIGHT by JULIA MAY COURTNEY

First Line: DAY STALKS ACROSS THE MESA FLOOR
Last Line: ON ITS WORLD.
Subject(s): DESERTS; FOOD & EATING;

Day stalks across the mesa floor
And climbing high at evening
Tints the jagged peaks
With amber
And with rose
And molten jade.
Then striding toward the sea
Flings back
A filmy purple scarf for coverlet
To bind the tired hills
And fold the drowsy hollows in first sleep
Till Night shall lock the door of silence
On its world.
