THE SONG, FR. JUANITA by LAUREN E. CRANE

First Line: TONIGHT THE STARS ARE FLOWING GOLD
Last Line: ADIOS! HERMOSA!

TO-NIGHT the stars are flowing gold;
The light South wind is blowing cold,
@3Esta es mi lucha?@1
The bright, bent moon is growing old,
@3Escucha!@1

Now test thy pride, and fearless prove,
Now blest—my bride—my peerless dove,
@3Juanita,@1
Come rest beside me here, sweet love,
@3Eres bendita!@1

Through tall and silent trees there seems
To fall the promise of fair dreams.
@3Querida!@1
How all the starry white air gleams.
@3Mi vida!@1

What dream, Juanita—fancied bliss—
Could seem so sweet a trance as this?
@3Dulcura,@1
Or beam warm as thy glance or kiss?
@3Alma pura!@1

What bliss to hold my fairy prize,
One kiss! yon star-gold, wary eyes,
@3Que gloria!@1
Saw this in far-old Paradise,
@3Memoria!@1

But Eden held no face like thine;
Nor creed in perfect grace like mine.
@3Que pascion!@1
To read thy tender ways divine
@3Es mi adoracion!@1

Adieu! I linger here too long;
For you my fingers sweep too strong.
@3Que Diosa!@1
Be true to singer and to song!
@3Adios! Hermosa!@1
