ATAVISTIC by PAULINE GARNER CURRAN

First Line: FOUR WALLS FOR MY BODY
Last Line: FIND THE WAY BACK!

Four walls for my body
To shield me from the cold;
Four walls for my thinking
Lest I grow over bold.

Outside foaming grasses
And moon-frosted sea;
Within, a vase of roses
Trimmed to rigidity.

I dare not cross the lintel
Or open the least crack,
For never could such running
Find the way back!
