A SILVER WONDER by WILLIAM HENRY DAVIES

Poet Analysis

First Line: SHALL I THIS NIGHT, AMAZED AND FULL OF WONDER
Last Line: PEEP OUT OF THEIR DARK HOLES LIKE TIMID MICE!
Subject(s): STARS;

Shall I this night, amazed and full of wonder,
Forget the Heavens and worship this new toy;
Shall I betray the stars and fall before
A strange new Image, with a greater joy?
Caught in the searchlights' fingers, gleaming bright,
A silver wonder, with a strange device,
Has made the stars, the great eternal stars,
Peep out of their dark holes like timid mice!
