JEWELS by WILLIAM HENRY DAVIES

Poet Analysis

First Line: TWICE IN ONE HOUR I'VE SEEN THIS LOVELY NIGHT
Last Line: STILL CALL ON NIGHT TO SEE MY WASTED TIME.
Subject(s): DREAMS; POETRY & POETS; NIGHTMARES;

Twice in one hour I've seen this lovely Night,
Flustered at having all those jewels there –
Spilling her stars, that fall from Heaven to Earth,
As though she carried more than she could bear.

While I, a struggling dreamer, all day long,
That tries to polish one poor little rhyme –
Though breathed on hard, and rubbed with ecstasy,
Still call on Night to see my wasted time.
