REGRET by WILLIAM HENRY DAVIES

Poet Analysis

First Line: HOW STRANGE THAT LOVE SHOULD BE LIKE THIS
Last Line: WHOSE LOVE WAS NEVER TOLD?
Subject(s): LOVE - COMPLAINTS; REMORSE;

How strange that Love should be like this,
So miserly and mean;
To wrap such radiant corn in leaves
Where little can be seen.

When sweet affection wastes its time
On gravestones white and cold —
Shall we not pity their remorse,
Whose love was never told?
