SICK MINDS by WILLIAM HENRY DAVIES

Poet Analysis

First Line: WHEN I AM SICK AND DARK DEPRESSION
Last Line: IS MAGIC THAT RESTORES MY OWN.
Subject(s): DEPRESSION, MENTAL; MENTALLY DEPRESSED; MENTAL DISTRESS;

When I am sick and dark depression
Lies all around with chilly breath –
What herbs or drugs shall I prescribe,
To save me from the hands of Death;
What remedy can I then find
To bring relief to my sick mind?

The teachings of my Master, Christ,
Are all the herbs or drugs I need;
To help one poorer than myself,
That is a remedy indeed:
To give a joy where there is none,
Is magic that restores my own.
