THE WITNESS by WILLIAM HENRY DAVIES

Poet Analysis

First Line: THE WITNESS TO MY DOCUMENT
Last Line: AS A LITTLE CHILD FROM PRAYER.
Subject(s): PRAYER;

The witness to my document
Was called a woman of shame;
She takes my pen, and lifts her clothes,
To kneel, and write her name.

With head bowed down, on bended knees,
She kneels before my chair;
And, writing slowly, rises up —
As a little child from prayer.
