PILGRIM by ALLETAH DICKENSON

First Line: LET ME STAND
Last Line: OF AN OVERBURNT ALTARCLOTH.

Let me stand
In the outer recesses
Of your heart's shrine.
I do not wish
A swifter entry
To your soul
Than by pain-marked steps.

For those who enter quickly
Sooner taste the ashes
Of an overburnt altarcloth.
