SONNET TO A GUPPIE by DOROTHY DIEMER

First Line: IGNORE MY MOCKING EYES, YOUNG FLIPPANT FISH
Last Line: IS LIKE A CRAZY GUPPIE IN A BOWL!
Subject(s): GUPPIES;

Ignore my mocking eyes, young flippant fish,
Be freezing cold to anyone so snoopy,
But really you make quite a pretty dish,
And so I write a sonnet to you, guppie.

Undaunted fellow, sail undaunted on,
As hours go by the silver depths unroll,
How many miles canst proudly boast at dawn --
Around a so absurdly little bowl?

A lightning grace enchants your sudden darts,
A peerless rainbow sheathes your streamlined form,
And yet your ego comes not from these arts,
But from the non-existent goal you storm.
For all my words, I fear my searching soul
Is like a crazy guppie in a bowl!
