The dead immortal! They are the ones whom we honor today, Over their graves a wreath and tears we lay; Yet we cannot honor enough those brave, courageous youths Who fought for our country, for freedom, love, and truth. Ay! They have won, but have sacrificed their lives, Have left, to see no more their mothers and their wives; Out on the turbulent field they had one sacred thought, It was to save their country, and so they bravely fought. Yes! It is Memorial Day, a noble day indeed, Back to our memories come those soldiers' valiant deeds; A love so deep fills our hearts as we salute and pay tribute To the ashes of our mourned and lost immortal youths! | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...MOONRISE by GERARD MANLEY HOPKINS THE TUFT OF KELP by HERMAN MELVILLE THE EAGLE; A FRAGMENT by ALFRED TENNYSON LYRICS AND EPICS by THOMAS BAILEY ALDRICH S.
