THE SEA AND THE DESERT by EDWARD COLLINS DOWNING

First Line: THE SEA / AND THE DESERT HATE EACH OTHER
Last Line: WITH BARRENNESS AND HEAT AND THIRST.
Subject(s): DESERTS; FOOD & EATING; SEA; OCEAN;

The sea
And the desert hate each other
Viciously.

The sea
Would sweep
Away
The dykes that keep
Its waves at bay.

The desert would resist
The tyranny
Of sea
And mist,
Though it were cursed
With barrenness and heat and thirst.
