PHILOSOPHER'S GARDEN by WILLIAM ARTHUR DUNKERLEY

First Line: SEE THIS MY GARDEN
Last Line: THOUGHTS THAT ASPIRE.
Subject(s): GARDENS & GARDENING; RELIGION; THEOLOGY;

@3"See this my garden,
Large and fair!"@1
-- Thus, to his friend,
The Philosopher.

@3"'Tis not too long,"@1
His friend replied,
With truth exact, --
@3"Nor yet too wide.
But well compact,
If somewhat cramped
On every side."@1

Quick the reply --
@3"But see how high!@1 --
@3It reaches up
To God's blue sky!"@1

Not by their size
Measure we men
Or things.

Wisdom, with eyes
Washed in the fire,
Seeketh the things
That are higher --
Things that have wings,
Thoughts that aspire.
