THE CROSSROADS by OLIVER MURRAY EDWARDS

First Line: I STOOD AT THE CROSSROADS ONE DAY
Last Line: WHEN LIFE ON EARTH IS DONE.
Subject(s): ADVICE; LIFE; ROADS; PATHS; TRAILS;

I stood at the crossroads one day,
'Twas up to me to choose the way—
The road that I should go.
The sun was shining on each way,
The birds were singing just as gay,
So how was I to know?

One was the road paved with desire
And promises I should not tire,
But still I was not sure.
The other paved with self-denial,
With promises of strife and trial
For those who would endure.

I seemed to feel my Saviour near,
And hear Him whisper in my ear:
My son, this is the one
That leads to everlasting life,
Beyond the turmoil and the strife
When life on earth is done.
