SOUND by GEORGE ELLISTON

First Line: TODAY MY HEART IS STEEPED IN SOUND-
Last Line: TURNING AROUND.
Subject(s): SOUND;

Today my heart is steeped in sound, just sound;
I'm drunk with listening, I hear
Far underground.

And all the garden round about echoes
Bees' hum and crickets, each low wind
That softly blows.

Tomorrow I shall move along the grass,
Nor catch a single greeting as
Wistful I pass.

But oh, today -- today is sound, just sound;
I hear the world itself, the world,
Turning around.
