WRITTEN IN A VOLUME OF GOETHE by RALPH WALDO EMERSON

Poet Analysis

First Line: SIX THANKFUL WEEKS, -- AND LET IT BE
Last Line: IN HIS PLENTY THINGS SO RARE?
Subject(s): GOETHE, JOHANN WOLFGANG VON (1749-1832);

Six thankful weeks, -- & let it be
A metre of prosperity, --
In my coat I bore this book,
And seldom therein could I look,
Each morning brought too much to think,
Heaven & earth to eat & drink.
Is he hapless, who can spare
In his plenty things so rare?
