BARGAIN by MABEL NATALIE ERICKSEN

First Line: THIRTY PIECES ... I WILL SELL'
Last Line: MOCKS THE BARGAIN WITH A ROPE.
Subject(s): SALESPERSONS; SELLING;

"Thirty pieces . . . I will sell.
I will sell them, God.
Fools! to think that they can hold
Stem of Jesse's rod."
Torch-lit swords reflect the kiss.
Pierce the night with sorrow:
God escapes to self as God
With the blood-bought morrow:
Drenched, the silver-driven hope
Mocks the bargain with a rope.
