I am a dog. With a rip and a roar I swore, When my mistressshe Put a chain on me. 'Twas coming on night. I had a right To the usual walk. And talk About rage I was insane. At the end of my chain I pushed open the door, And there on the floor Lay a rug. I swore. Every piece I tore And chewed from that thing (G-r-r- Bing!) Was a red hot oath; A "Hell"! and a "Damn"! both. And when I got through I assure you The rug wasn't there. I'm glad that the hair On my back grows thick. My mistress was quick With a near by quirt. But it didn't hurt. 'Twas just the price, And it cut no ice, Of putting through What I dared to do When things weren't right. I am a dog.
