TO HUMILITY by ALEXANDER LOUIS FRASER

First Line: THOU PURE-EYED SOUL, WHEN IN THE DUSKY WOLD
Last Line: TO COURT THY COYEST SMILE WHILE I SHALL LIVE!

Thou pure-eyed soul, when in the dusky wold,
And near the trail of Truth I oft have been,
Thy shy, retreating figure have I seen
A-fleeing from our babbling loud and bold;
And if I turned my thought 'twas to behold
A fawning maiden lingering on the green
To lure us with her wiles—but well I ween
Who e'er gave her his heart, his honor sold.

Flee not my cloud-arched path oh, maid demure,
Be thou my guide as down the years I go;
For thy dear sake this heart I would keep pure,
And Vanity's allurings all forego—
Heaven hears my vow: myself to thee I give
To court thy coyest smile while I shall live!
