ANGRY EARTH by JOHN FREEMAN

First Line: ANGRY EARTH, GIVE ME THY FURY
Last Line: ANGRY EARTH, TO OUTFACE DEATH.
Subject(s): DEATH; EARTH; DEAD, THE; WORLD;

ANGRY Earth, give me thy fury,
That when Death seeks to o'ercome me
And my brain and body bury
In his hole,
I shall rise, I shall rise.

Pain, that's like the rust of metals,
Stain upon the mind's most fairness,
Frost that wastes wind-shaking petals,
Pain the Ghost,
Death's sly ally, I shall dare.

Angry Earth, forbear sweet summer,
April softness, May's too-sweetness,
Mute be Autumn's early drummer—
Winter's strength
Give me, and his frozen heat.

Arctic Death, then, blizzard-breathing,
I shall dare, @3sans@1 fear or wonder,
Icy pangs, pain's seas deep seething.
Give me fury,
Angry Earth, to outface Death.
