HOLIDAY SONG by JOHN GALSWORTHY

First Line: HERE'S A DAY OF CAP AND BELLS
Last Line: CATS LOOK TIRED, AND KITTENS PALE!

HERE'S a day of cap and bells!
Cows shake out a silver dinning;
Shed your virtues, come a-sinning,
Leave your morals to their cells!

Birds are piping, insects hum;
Take the path of play and laughter!
Why go caring what comes after?
Nature's drum-sticks all a-drum!

Clowns and Christians count the loss!
Ope your mouth -- let berries tumble!
Eat no more of pie that's humble!
Let your heart play pitch and toss!

When the cup of joy grows stale
Bunnies all shall cease their funning,
Sunflowers have enough of sunning,
Cats look tired, and kittens pale!
