WINGS by ELISE BRICE GILLESPIE

First Line: THE EARTH IS NOW FULL OF SUCH WONDERFUL THINGS
Last Line: MY ARMS ARE OUTSTRETCHED -- OH GOD! LET ME FLY!
Subject(s): FLIGHT; WINGS; FLYING;

The earth is now full of such wonderful things
My feet are too slow, I want strong rushing wings
To ride through the night on the lightning's bright path,
And sink to the earth with the storm's aftermath;
Alone to stand poised on a high mountain peak,
Then deep in a mine, rich treasures to seek;
To cling with both hands to a glittering star
And rush through the ether to glories afar.
No forces could stay me, on earth, sea, or sky,
My arms are outstretched -- Oh God! let me fly!
