SONG by LOUIS GINSBERG

First Line: APRIL, APRIL, LAUGHING BY
Last Line: LAUGHING DOWN THE LAUGHING STREET?

APRIL, April, laughing by,
April, can you tell me why
You are happy, you are gay?—
Have you seen my Love to-day?

April, did you ever know
Tides of fragrant glory so
Swift to flood the avenue?—
Listen, eager April, you!

April, when I saw her last,
All her laughter, as she past,
Like a sudden flame in air,
Quenched the sunlight everywhere! ..

Tell me, did you ever see
How it is that Love could be
Sweetness poured on me like this,
Sweetness burning in a kiss!

April, April, going by,
Underneath a flame of sky,—
April, have you seen my Sweet,
Laughing down the laughing street?
