PARADOX by GERTRUDE B. GUNDERSON

First Line: I HAVE SEEN ENVY HIDE HER PETTINESS
Last Line: WITH LOVE'S OWN GLOWING EYES.
Subject(s): ENVY; JEALOUSY; LOVE;

I have seen envy hide her pettiness,
Beneath a purple cloak;
And walk as proudly—in her masquerade—
As any noble folk.

And self-delusion often shrouds its face
In angel's soft disguise;
As when mad jealousy veils selfishness
With Love's own glowing eyes.
