FREEDOM by VIRGINIA CLAY HAMILTON

First Line: THE CLEAN DAWN WIND AND THE HARD WHITE BEACH
Last Line: FOR FREEDOM'S A LONELY THING.
Subject(s): FREEDOM; WELLESLEY COLLEGE; LIBERTY;

THE clean dawn wind and the hard white beach
And the touch and go of the restless sea
Taught me something -- or tried to teach
And that was -- "Be thou free."

But I went back to the waking house
And made the fire and the kettle sing
And shut the door and bolted it close,
For Freedom's a lonely thing.
