THE POEMS OF COLD MOUNTAIN: 178 by HAN SHAN

First Line: WHEN BIRDS SANG THIS SPRING
Last Line: RECALLING THE CAPITAL HURTS
Subject(s): CHINESE LITERATURE; GRIEF; MEMORY; SORROW; SADNESS;

When birds sang this spring
I thought about my brothers
when chrysanthemums bloomed this fall
I thought about my youth
green water babbled in a thousand places
yellow clouds filled the horizon
alas after less than a hundred years
recalling the Capital hurts
