THE POEMS OF COLD MOUNTAIN: 196 by HAN SHAN

First Line: FIRE AND SMOKE RAGED WITHIN
Last Line: THEY WERE FOOLS INDEED
Subject(s): CHINESE LITERATURE; FIRE; IGNORANCE; WEALTH; DULLNESS; STUPDITY; RICHES; FORTUNES;

Fire and smoke raged within
a ramshackle overgrown hut
I asked a group of children
how long they had lived inside
outside three carts beckoned
still they wouldn't leave
too content and too fat
they were fools indeed
