THE POEMS OF COLD MOUNTAIN: 98 by HAN SHAN

First Line: THEY SCRUTINIZE WORLDLY AFFAIRS
Last Line: WHY SHOULD I TRUST THE LIPS OF SLAVES
Subject(s): CHINESE LITERATURE; DECEPTION; POLITICS & GOVERNMENT; SLAVERY; SERFS;

They scrutinize worldly affairs
they want all the details
they weigh nothing lightly
and love to gain an edge
defending themselves bad becomes good
attacking others right becomes wrong
thus we hear their flattering tongues
behind his back it's all his fault
but hot and cold I'll judge for myself
why should I trust the lips of slaves
