CHINESE SPRING by ELIZABETH HARCOURT

First Line: THE MOON OF FLOWERS IS HERE
Last Line: THE MOON OF FLOWERS IS HERE!
Subject(s): MOON; SPRING;

The Moon of Flowers is here,
And there above the pool's jade depth
Red lilies lift their heads
To the musk-heavy air;
In the cinnamon tree
The misted moonlight hangs like incense,
And a solitary nightingale sings sadly
To the gold-eyed moon.
The little breezes weep and sigh
In the red willows,
While the white poppies
Drugged with sleep,
Nod slowly to the jewelled night, --
The Moon of Flowers is here!
