CHARADE: 16 by FRANCES RIDLEY HAVERGAL

First Line: THE ALL-VICTORIOUS ROMAN
Last Line: AND CRUSHED SHALL BE THEIR PRIDE.'
Subject(s): RAMPARTS;

THE all-victorious Roman
Hath raised his eagles high,
The Carthaginian foeman
Right proudly to defy.

Forth marched in noble daring
The leader of the day,
A mighty @3second@1 bearing
In all the stern affray.

Ye glorious ranks, assemble!
'Push on, my @3first,@1' he cried,
'And soon their @3whole@1 shall tremble,
And crushed shall be their pride.'
