UPON FAUNUS by ROBERT HERRICK

Poet Analysis

First Line: WE READ HOW FAUNUS, HE THE SHEPHEARDS GOD
Last Line: BUT HAD IT BEEN OF BIRCH, THE DEATH'S THE SAME.
Subject(s): FAUNUS (MYTHOLOGY);

We read how Faunus, he the shepheards God,
His wife to death whipt with a Mirtle Rod.
The Rod (perhaps) was better'd by the name;
But had it been of Birch, the death's the same.
