LINES TO RATCLIF [RADCLIFFE] by HENRY HOWARD

Poet Analysis

First Line: MY RATCLIF [RADCLIFFE], WHEN THY RECKLESS YOUTH OFFENDS
Last Line: BUT WYATT SAID TRUE, THE SCAR DOTH AYE ENDURE.
Subject(s): RADCLIFFE, THOMAS, 3D EARL OF SUSSEX (1526-1583);

My Ratclif, when thy reckless youth offends,
Receive thy scourge by others' chastisement.
For such calling, when it works none amends,
Then plagues are sent without advertisement.
Yet Salomon said, the wronged shall recure:
But Wyatt said true, the scar doth aye endure.
