COTTAGE LEFT FOR LONDON by WALTER SAVAGE LANDOR

Poet Analysis

First Line: THE COVERT WALK, THE MOSSY APPLE-TREES
Last Line: WATER UNFIT TO DRINK AND AIR TO BREATHE.
Subject(s): COUNTRY LIFE; LONDON;

The covert walk, the mossy apple-trees,
And the long grass that darkens underneath,
I leave for narrow streets and gnats and fleas,
Water unfit to drink and air to breathe.
