THE GEORGES by WALTER SAVAGE LANDOR

Poet Analysis

First Line: GEORGE THE FIRST WAS ALWAYS RECKONED
Last Line: (GOD BE PRAISED!) THE GEORGES ENDED.
Subject(s): GEORGE I, KING OF ENGLAND (1660-1727); GEORGE II, KING OF ENGLAND (1683-1760); GEORGE III, KING OF ENGLAND (1738-1820); GEORGE IV, KING OF ENGLAND (1762-1830);

George the First was always reckoned
Vile, but viler George the Second;
And what mortal ever heard
Any good of George the Third?
When from earth the Fourth descended
(God be praised!) the Georges ended.
