MY SEASONAL BODY by CLARENCE MAJOR

Poet Analysis

First Line: FOR THAT WHOLE YEAR I WAS IN THE WEIGHT OF MYSELF

For that whole year I was in the weight of myself.
I was a hundred and fifty pounds of sadness

in a warm locality with sky and boats and sea.

I was solitary and lonely.

I was sixteen with holes in my head for eyes.
I was so so serious.

The weight of my young self was so heavy.
So heavy.
