DEMOCRITUS AND HERACLITUS by MATTHEW PRIOR

First Line: DEMOCRITUS, DEAR DROLL, REVISIT EARTH
Last Line: HURT, CAN I LAUGH? AND HONEST, NEED I CRY?
Subject(s): DEMOCRITUS (460-370 B.C.); HERACLITUS (540-480 B.C.); PHILOSOPHY & PHILOSOPHERS;

Democritus, dear droll, revisit Earth,
And with our follies glut thy heightened mirth.
Sad Heraclitus, serious wretch, return,
In louder grief our greater crimes to mourn.
Between you both I unconcerned stand by:
Hurt, can I laugh? and honest, need I cry?
