THE UNACKNOWLEDGED FEAR by KATHLEEN JESSIE RAINE

Poet Analysis

First Line: AT THE BOTTOM OF MY FEAR
Last Line: MY SHOULDERS BOW UNDER AN INVISIBLE WEIGHT.
Subject(s): FEAR; HATE; HEARTS; LOVE;

At the bottom of my fear
There lies a power too mighty to be mine.
I dare not ask the name
Of the monster in my heart.

Is the fiend lust, or murder,
Or some intolerable despair
That hides from me my own desire,
Hides from me my love and hate,
Stifles my power?

My shoulders bow under an invisible weight.
