THE THREE WREATHS by LIZETTE WOODWORTH REESE

Poet Analysis

First Line: THREE WREATHS MAKE I IN THE WOOD
Last Line: DOWN THE WIND OF HALLOWMAS!
Subject(s): FORESTS; HERBS; WOODS;

THREE wreaths make I in the wood,
Of the white herb that I should,
Of the sad herb growing tall
By a gusty country wall.
One is for a graybeard dead
Many an autumn come and fled;
One for a hand's length of mold
Covering a head of gold.
One for Long Since. This I make
With my very heart a-break; --
Listen to that footstep pass,
Down the wind of Hallowmas!
