THE YOUTHFUL PRESS by JAMES WHITCOMB RILEY

Poet Analysis

First Line: LITTLE GEORGIE TOMPERS, HE
Last Line: TRUTHS THAT SHAPE OUR DESTINIES.
Subject(s): PRINTING AND PRINTERS; YOUTH;

LITTLE Georgie Tompers, he
Printed some fine cards for me;
But his press had "J" for @3James@1 --
By no means the choice of names. --

Yet it's proper, none the less,
That his little printing-press
Should be taught that @3James@1 for "J"
Always is the better way.

For, if left to its own whim,
Next time it might call me "Jim," --
Then THE CULTURED PRESS would be
Shocked at such a liberty.

Therefore, little presses all
Should be trained, while they are small,
To develop @3taste@1 in these
Truths that shape our destinies.
