TO HATTIE - ON HER BIRTHDAY by JAMES WHITCOMB RILEY

Poet Analysis

First Line: WHEN YOUR 'UNCLE JIM' WAS
Last Line: ON HER ANNIVERSARY.
Subject(s): ANNIVERSARIES; BIRTHDAYS; KISSES;

WHEN your "Uncle Jim" was younger,
In the days of childish hunger
For the honey of such verses
As this little book rehearses
In such sweet simplicity, --
Just the simple gift that this is
Would have brimmed his heart with blisses
Sweet as Hattie's sweetest kisses,
On her anniversary.
