THE POSTULANT by JOHN BANISTER TABB

First Line: IN ASHES FROM THE WASTED FIRES OF NOON
Last Line: TO TAKE THE VEIL OF NIGHT.

In ashes from the wasted fires of noon,
Aweary of the light,
Comes Evening, a tearful novice, soon
To take the veil of night.
