TOO LATE by JOHN BANISTER TABB

First Line: SIGHED A POET WHEN HIS FAME
Last Line: FOR I'VE LIVED JUST THIRTY YEARS BEYOND THE TIME!
Subject(s): FAME; POETRY & POETS; TIME; REPUTATION;

Sighed a poet when his fame
After fifty winters came
And the Editors were asking for his rhyme:
Alas, I've lost my chance
As a hero of romance,
For I've lived just thirty years beyond the time!
