NOW with the lengthening days To God give glory and praise, Because He spills His plenty on the earth. That Life stirs bold and brave Prisoned in tree and grave, And earth is quick, is quick with myriad birth. O now the thrushes sing, The heart has gotten a wing, And all's given back again, nothing is lost. They who were dead have come New from the teeming womb, Coming with banners, a gay and glistening host. Now is fast before feast, Sober the year goes drest, This is the Lenten time to fast and pray; But listen and you shall hear The multitudinous cheer Rise up, sent forth, of the dead under the clay. The Lord of Life shall rise New from the sacrifice, And all Creation follow, a glistening train Singing innumerable, With wonderful news to tell, How Christ is risen, is risen, and Death is slain. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE MERRIMAC by JOHN GREENLEAF WHITTIER THE MAID OF LLANWELLYN; A SONG by JOANNA BAILLIE MY BALD HEAD by PIERRE JEAN DE BERANGER LOVE AND COQUETRY by LEVI BISHOP SONNETS OF SEVEN CITIES: NEW YORK by BERTON BRALEY |
