THE LEAVES by FRANCIS VIELE-GRIFFIN

Poet Analysis

First Line: THE LEAVES, THIS MORNING
Last Line: THAT EVEN NOW, AND ALONE, THEY INTOXICATE?
Subject(s): LEAVES; SINGING & SINGERS; VOICES;

The leaves, this morning,
The sun's adorning;
The rain is cool.
Yesterday's songs in refrain are borne,
This merry morn,
And if I forget, your voice shall rule.

And if even your memory fail
I'll run full tilt on the tune's trail
And the words will follow soon or late:
What did we sing
With words so wantoning
That even now, and alone, they intoxicate?
