TO A PRODIGY OF SAPIENCE by WILLIAM WATSON

Poet Analysis

First Line: THE WORLD'S AN ORANGE - THOU HAST DRAINED ITS JUICE
Last Line: THOUGH MOON AND STARS BE MINCED TO YIELD IT STUFFING.
Subject(s): PRIDE; SELF-ESTEEM; SELF-RESPECT;

THE world's an orange -- thou hast drained its juice.
But wherefore all this pomp and pride and puffing?
Somehow a goose is none the less a goose
Though moon and stars be minced to yield it stuffing.
